Pet Cat

Cats and Dogs

According to the movie Cats and Dogs (or is the other way around? Hmm, let me check. Yup, it is Cats and Dogs.), there are two types of animal lovers in the world: the pet dog lovers and the pet cat lovers. Now, our supposed harmless pet cats were once being worshipped as gods in Ancient Egypt (true story). Then the dogs came and scared the hell out of these cats. So, the pet cat owners are supposed to be the dumber owners compare to dog owners for today, the cats are in a conspiracy to make us, the human race, be their slaves just like it was before in Ancient Egypt. Our last chance or last line of defense are the pet dogs worldwide who band together to keep the humans free. If we try to believe this movie, cats and dogs are really intellectually superior to us with their own high tech gadgets and secret command center. Unknown to us, cats and dogs are actually waging a war against each other.

Of course this movie is a product of an over active imagination from some Hollywood writer designed to entertain the kids; however, it reveals some sentiment that is shared by many about their pets. Among my friends, an informal poll that I conducted showed that very few of them like cats. I have observed that most people are dog lovers. I share this sentiment too. I, although not really what you can call a dog lover, prefer dogs to cats. I am easily irritated by cats. Pet cat is an oxymoron for me. It is like saying pet rat or pet cockroach or pet mosquito.

I always see in my minds eye dog owners as the happier owners. They would always play with their dogs and the dogs will respond to their affections. Dogs look actually glad to see you with their wagging tongue and wagging tail. They also know how to be grateful to the hands that feed them. Meanwhile, I see cat owners as cold or sadder people just like their pets. (Of course that is just what I picture them. Probably from watching too much cartoons.) Pet cats are snobbish and always act like spoiled brats. They always want that you give them what they want and they can’t even thank you for it. They do not feel like pets at all. All they do is laze around in one corner and just look at you with those creepy eyes following you all around the room. But what I can’t stand at all is when they fight or mate. Cats are the noisiest animals during these occasions and once they started they can’t seem to shut up.

Stray cats have come to stay in our home lately. You can’t control them for they can scale walls no matter how tall these walls are. They breed like rabbits too. All they are good for is putting the mice population at a minimum.
